Does anybody have any suggestions on how to repair a leak in the gas tank? (TO 35) Hairline crack, about an inch and a half long. The new tanks are expensive and I noticed some posts on this board in the past saying they didn't last long.

JB Weld or similar epoxy will hold until you get a permanent fix. Need to clean the spot REAL GOOD to get oily residue off before using the epoxy. Heck, you might end-up just leaving the epoxy, if properly applied it will last a loong time.

Is there a spot weld near the crack? If so the baffle in the tank more than likely caused the crack and sealing alone may not be a permanent fix.

Could have a patch soldered over it - but ONLY BY SOMEONE USED TO REPAIRING GAS TANKS. Don't want you to blow yourself up.

1. Have it steam cleaned , then brazed;
2. I believe on this site there is a compound for sale that you use to coat the inside of the tank to seal it. I've never tried it, but perhaps someone can comment on it.

Yes; Por-15 is a rust preventitive that works real well. Kind of expensive but worth it in my estimation. Paul F B
