I just purchased a Ferguson FE 35 serial number SNM 268208 - the tractor was manufactured in Coventry, England by Massey-Ferguson but is a Ferguson tractor. Right now it is painted MF colours- red sheet metal and grey castings. As I understood it, all the Brisih made FE 35 tractors were gold and grey. Does anyone know how the colour scheme worked on these tractors.

It also has a Ferguson nose badge and Massey-Ferguson 35 decals on the side. It has a two stage clutch and the three cylinder Perkins diesel engine.

Thank you kindly

The bonnet (hood) has most likely been changed a Three clynder would have had MF Triple triangle Badge on the front and Massey Ferguson 35 decals on the side The year of manufacture is 1962 early on in the year.

David, I've done a bit more digging into your tractor and thought you might like to know that the alphabetical prefix to your serial number means;- S;- normal width. N;- diesel engine, Perkins A3.152 M;- dual clutch, (de-luxe model).

Regards, Pete.

David, Sounds like you have a MF35 built at Banner Lane, Coventry in 1962. If you write to Friends of Ferguson Heritage, PO Box 62, Banner Lane, Coventry, England, they will give you the exact date of build, on what shift it was built, and how many others were built that day. Harry Ferguson and Massey Harris amalgamated in the early 50's and became known as Massey Harris Ferguson, the Harris was dropped sometime later. In the immediate post merger period the gray Fergies continued to be produced but were being phased out in favour of the FE35 which, you quite rightly say was produced in a grey and gold livery. It wasnt until November, 1957 that the first red and gray MF 35 was produced at Banner Lane, and the first Perkins 3-152 engine was installed at s/no 166596 in Nov 1959. Hope this is of assistance, If you need any more info please e-mail me. Regards, Pete.
