I have been looking for a Ford 8N. Have come accross a TE35 which I am told is a good tractor. Please help me with an opinion; how does it compare to the 8N. What about parts availability?

Thanks Much for any help you can offer.

Hi Bill -

Lots of parts around. Nearly everything is identical to the MF and TO 35, except electrics, which are probably Lucas. Starters are interchangeable.

There are some Lucas parts here in Canada, as well as Standard engine parts, if your proposed has that engine.

The 35's are great tractors! You may have some teething problems, if it's been neglected, but once cured, they run almost forever!

I've had a good 8N, and now have a TO35.
The 35 is what 8N owners wish they had -
live PTO/hydralics, a little more power
and front end heft, and a much more reasonable
reverse gear. TO35s come both with (Deluxe
model) and without (Special model) the live PTO/hydraulics - not sure about the TE35s. There are a lot of websites with
that information, though. The 35s pull about
50% harder than the 8Ns (35s weigh more). That
was my biggest reason for selling the 8N -
I'd had a MH30 before, and an IH300 utility,
and the 8N just didn't pull hard enough
to be useful. I haven't had any problem
with parts, see local MF dealer. If
your choice is limited to two specific machines,
condition would be the deciding factor, unless
you need live PTO (mowing, baling).

Since I have the same last name I'll give you what I know about the Fergersons. They are good tractors but I'm working on a TE20 right now and parts are not easy to come by here in northeast Pennsylvania. Maybe in England they are more available. 8N is a good all around light tractor.Good Luck

Bill, Looking at it as a work tractor, the TE35 is probably a better machine; as a collectable tractor, I would say go with the 8N.
Since I have a TO30, I couldn't tell you everything about the '35, but I believe it has a live PTO, which the 8N doesn't have and it has more power with the OHV engine.. Where are you located, though? I think the TE was manufactured in Europe. The TO is for the USA. E is for Europe, O is for overseas.
If you are in the US, I wonder if the parts are interchangable, easily available, metric vs SAE, etc.
Hope this helps.

Of course, I may be wrong with my info. Hopefully, somebody more knowledgable will correct me if I am.
