I saw a post in here somewhere that said not to put regular tractor hydraulic fluid in my TO 35 Ferguson. What fluid should I use and where can I get it? I am restoring this old tractor and I drained the fluids. Thanks for your help.

I would never consider running any oil except GL-1 80 or 90W. The Multi grade paraffin base oil will not withstand the pressures imposed between the ring, pinion, and spider gears in the rear axle housing. Why mineral oil ? Dave

It is perfectly ok to use Multi-grade 15W-30 we had this out with Castrol oil.

The original spec for the oil was GL1 90W which is a straight mineral oil but you can use a Multi-grade oil 15W-30 which is good if you have a cold winter climate as it doesn't get as thick as 90W when cold. It stays more fluid over the whole temperature range. You should be able to get this from any oil supplier.

The older Fergusons specified GL-1 mineral oil for the trans/hydraulic fluid;90W for summer and 80W for winter. You can find this at NAPA.
I believe MF says you can use MF 1129 or 1130 spec oil also. DO NOT PUT IN REAR AXLE GEAR OIL!

the only reason the MF dealers say you can use 1129 or 1130 is that they don't know any better use M1103 ONLY or napa oil of GL-1 rating minneral oil

John, are you saying we can use 15W-30 for gear oil? If you think it's OK then that's good enough for me.
I have trouble finding the staight stuff.
