I recently bought a 1955 "Ferguson 35", or TO-35 serial #155113. It seems to have been taken fairly good care of. Needs rewiring and such but runs smooth and strong. My question concerns the "tractometer" drive cable which is missing. The meter needle moves when I turn the input with my finger and thumb, so I think the meter is OK. 1. Where can I get a replacement cable assembly on the Internet?
2. Where does the other end of the cable attach to the engine? I've looked high and low, but can't find an orifice, so to speak. Thanks for any help.

Billy, here are the p/ns for the gears etc. that are fitted to the rear of the generator to which the Tractormeter cable is attached: 1 751 299 M91 Plate Assy, Housing
1 751 298 M1 Gasket, Plate
1 751 304 M1 Pinion, Drive
1 751 301 M92 Gear Assy, Driven 835 086 M1 Bearing, Needle
1 751 295 M91 Housing Assy 354 204 X1 5/32 x 7/8 flat head screw

These are all one (1) quantity parts except for the screws which are three (3)qty.
In the illustration in the parts book, the needle bearing appears to be included with the housing assembly (1 751 295 M91).

Good luck and if possible, please let me/us know how the project went. Roger

My '56 TO-35 Deluxe had the tractometer (frozen) and the original generator w/ no drive gear. I bought the appropriate parts and cable at the local MF dealer in Weatherford TX. I had the tractometer rebuilt at a speedo shop (expensive!). It now works like new. I usually use the engine sound to judge throttle settings but I like having the tractometer operational.

One note: I also had the gen. rebuilt and they put the wrong shaft in. Didn't have the threads for the drive gear. When I took it back it took them about ten minutes to replace it with the correct one.

All-in-all, no big deal. Just lots of bucks.

My tractometer drive cable for my FE-35 (Standard Diesel engine) comes from the front of the Injector Pump - at least thats what I think it is.

If you have a different engine then don't bother.

Thanks for the reply Jon. As luck would have it, mine is the Continental 4 banger gas engine. I am trying to locate a used alternator with the cable drive on the rear like the old generators had. Thanks again.

REF: MF Parts Book for the TO35. The cable assembly comes in two lengths: p/n 506 331 M91 is 39 17/32"; p/n 521 596 M91 is 34 21/32" and was used on tractors serial #s prior to 204 181.
I think the cables are available thru TISCO.
The generator has a housing assembly fitted to the rear and contains gear reduction. Let me know if you want those p/ns too. Roger

Roger, Thanks for the help on the cable info. If you have the p/n's for the housing assembly on the generator rear cover handy, I would sure like to have them. I may try to find an old scrap gen. at a local tractor bone yard and see if I can graft the cable drive unit on it to the rear of my alt. assembly. Thanks again for the help. Billy

I don't know where on the internet you can find a cable, but I believe AGCO still sells them. The tach cable connects to the rear of the generator. Possibly you don't have an original generator and thus no fitting.

Thanks for the help Doug. Your right as rain about the cable attaching to the generator and mine has been converted to a 12V alternator. Being the half assed hacker/machinist that I am makes me think that this story may not be over yet. I will see if its feasable to fit a home made adapter to the rear of the alternator shaft. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again.
