I need some guidance. I am restoring this old TO 35, (1955). I have been scouring parts manuals to undersatand how the access panel on top of the hood is held in position. Somebody used old window hinges on my hood and I know that isn't right. The parts books are unclear as to exactly how they work. Can anybody explain to this old dummy how this works? Thanks for any help.

I just recently(a couple of months ago) purchased a 1955 TO35 Deluxe. The hood was not opening properly so I took it off and fixed it. I had to weld the brackets that held the hinge mechanism in place. I will tell you this. It is quite a complicated little design. As the hood is opened two arched spring leafs keep tension on each hinge and then hold it in the open position. I wish I could take a picture but I don't think it would turn out being such a small item. If you would like me to draw a diagram of and send it to you in the mail I would be willing to try it. I'll watch the postings to see if you want me to do this.

Thanks for the help. I have another person on here who sent me pictures of his hood mechanism. It demonstrated to me that I need a new hood. Somebody cut the cross straps out of my access panel opening when they bolted on the window hinges so I have to start over. Oh well! Anybody got a hood and access panel for a TO 35, 1955 model?
