Well, as you see there is 3 rods down there. The one to the left is for Start and Reverse, the one to the right is for first and second, and the one in the middle if for third and fourth gear. As you also see, on the rods you have the piece of iron where the little ball on the gear lever goes down to. These pieces are secured to the rod with a screw, and out of the sight you have the shifting forks. These are also secured to the rods with a similar screw. Here is what I want you to observe. If you put a prybar in the rails, can you move them any at all. I mean, just a little, can you see a movement on the rods at all. Because if you can't, the rods are stuck in the aluminum housing, the transmission housing. However, if you can see a tiny movement there, but it stops, then it is the sliding coupling that is stuck. No matter what is stuck, it will in worst case mean you have to open the transmission to get it loose. Note, if you pry to hard you may move the shifting forks or the piece with the rail you are looking down at on the rod, and then it needs to be re-adjusted. But I can not say how much you can pry until they slide on the rod. I would have emptied the transmission for oil, if it looks as bad as you say doen there it can be water and you definately want to get rid of that. If it is rust on the sliding couplings, I have no idea how to free that, I mean you can not fill the entire transmission with WD 40 or whatever. Maybe filling it with plain diesel fuel could be a solution. But, if it is the rods that is stuck you may need to plit the tractor between the transmission and centerhousing, and take off the steering box. Then it is possible to loosen the screws that secures the shifting forks and the rail pieces, and maybe use a hammer on the end that sticks out of the transmission in the rear end, to see if they loosens up. If you get them loose then, you will need to remove the rods completely and clean out the bores, and clean the rods and then mount it back again and adjust it. Maybe John in UK has some to say about this, and also a different way of doing it. Bill
