Good Evening Everyone
This past Saturday morning I was taking my Fergy out for a little road trip, not far just up to my brother-in-laws to get a trailer load of fire wood for an outside bonfire. When I got to his place with the trailer I looked back and my left 3-point hitch lift arm was broken in half. I couldnt imagine how it happened. I went right home and assessed the problem. I got a better look at where it had broke, right near the top. A closer look and I could see where it had been welded at some point in the past. I looked at the other side and it had been welded in the past as well. Im going to an old bone yard tomorrow to see if I can get a replacement set-up. What would a guy expect to pay for this? I cant bush-hog this coming summer without it. I will take a picture and post it as soon as possible of just where it broke. My buddy Douger-By-The-Park (DBTP)says that he can weld it but I think I will check on a replacement set 1st. Thanks in advance ----Barry

Are you talking about the Lower Link arm, the one that goes from under the rear axle of the tractor and back where you hook up implements ?

Or are you talking about the Upper lift arm that sits on the axle shaft through the lift cover under the seat ?

Bill

Hi Bill
I never could get all that lift arm crap strate, but here goes. Looking from the back of the tractor you will see an arm the extends down to another arm that mounts under the tractor, you hook up implements on these. The right arm has an adjustment crank on it, where the left one doesnt. ITS THE LEFT ONE THAT SNAPPED. Is every body extremely confused now?

If it is the rod that is vertical and attaches to the lower link that the implement attaches to, the part number is MF-182554M92 or Sparex S40968 which you can order from your local tractor dealer (doesn't need to be MF dealer) this same part fits the 35 too with Cat 1 linkage.

Have a look at the Dennis Carpenter website for Fords. I think these parts are the same, and as I recall they aren"t very expensive either. Jim

You can weld it and also lay a piece of 3/8" flat iron along side as a strengthener and it won"t break there again. It"s made from forged steel so you better use low hydrogen welding rod.
The colder it is, the easier steel is to break...so theres probably the reason for the breakage. Probably better pre heat it some before welding...just hot so you can"t hold your ahnd on it and then weld. If you don"t mind the looks and your buddy will do a freeby, that money will fit in your pocket just as well as someone elses. Fred OH

You can also use the new sparex catalog and find out what new would cost. There in there.

Not sure what part you are referencing.

A) The Lift arm... (Linkage from tractor that rotates) Wow if that thick piece of metal broke. The Lift arm Sparex PN is S42171

B) The middle link, left one is fixed the right is adjustable. (also called the fork shaft etc.) I had one break about 1 1/2 years ago, new cost ~$40 US delevered. got it from a web parts supplier. Mine failed in a classic fatigue-tensil overload. It had a crack 1/3 of the way through befor it let go. Part catalong on this site has it for $40.70US. The Sparex Lift Link (Fixed) PN is s40968.

c) lower link arm. I am pretty sure you are not referencing this.

Anyway all the parts are also in the online TEA catalog John(UK) references in the sparex catalog discussion. You can get the part number there and call for a supplier.

Jeff

Trouble with welding this sort of thing - do you know the metal specification and the correct heat treatment to give it afterwards?
