I recently rebuilt the carb. on my to-30. I soaked it in carb cleaner 24 hrs and sprayed with air hose. I now have a problem of the float sticking. When the tractor is not running, gas drips from the carb. I have asked the locals and I am told that this is the reason there is a gas shut off. Sticky floats are common event. They stick up or down, but whay of life with these old tractors. My question is, is this true? I saw nothing in the directions on how to adjust the float.

Something else you might want to check. Make sure the seat is securely screwed into the carb top. They have a tendency to get real snug just before they bottom out. I had to use a hammer driven impact tool on mine to get it tight enough. That fixed it, but I was about to tear my hair out before I got it tight. Gas will leak around it if it's not totally bottomed out.

azjohn, .... COMMON PROBLEM! All the rebuild kits I've seen come with those rubber tipped needle valves. They just don't do as good a job holding out the gas as the old brass needle valves. Your float is not sticking, it just isn't strong enough to resist the never ending weight of the gas tank contents pushing against your needle valve. The gas slowly leaks into your carb. The best thing to do is close your gas shutoff when you shut down your tractor.

Manual says the float gap is 9/32". Try checking the float gap ~ 1/2way down the side of the float, not at the end of the float. I had the same problem when I rebuilt my carb a few years back. I pulled the carb and adjusted the float to 1/4" gap. Tractor still runs fine, it did seem to help the leak thru a little bit, but still have to close the shutoff within a few hours or the carb will be floaded. Hope this helps
George

Yeah a sticky float on a Marvel-Schebler carb is common, but if you didn't adjust it when you rebuilt the carb that could be your problem. I'm away from home and don't have the instructions; but, they should have been in your re-build kit. Get a shop manual and they will be in there.
