Does anyone know the lifting capacity of the 3 pt hitch? I need to lift about 6,000 pounds.

Just realised you say your tractor is a 1955 model.....you can increase this lifting capacity slightly by adding shims to the safety valve which is in the top cover under the seat on the front r/h corner, under a big square plug,Fit a pressure gauge to the hydraulics and check the pressure, it may be down, shim the valve to bring it back up again, absolute maximum pressure 2400psi. you must test it with the oil as warm as possible as it would be when working normally, do not do it from cold.

With the hydraulics in good order the maximum weight they will lift at the ends of the lower links is 800lbs, very early ones will only lift 600 lbs. That is only the lifting capacity, to actually use the maximum lift you will of course require some ballast on the front end to keep it on the floor.

You won"t be doing it with your "55 fergie then! Doubt I could lift that with my 6600 Ford.

Front end loader will lift way more than backend and they are only 1500# capacity loaders

Charlie.

I have a TEA 20-85 1955 sn.445577.
The best that I can lift is about 900lbs with me leaning forward over the hood, and I weigh in at about 230. Anything over that I would think that physics would overcome you and you might be needing a ROB. Always use caution when performing these tasks.

My 2 cents worth.

Give it a try. The front will lift off the ground before you hurt the hydraulics. That's my experience anyhoo. Cosmo

Maybe you added a digit by mistake.. 600 lbs would be closer.. a fresh stout one maybe 800.. (and 6000 is about twice the weight of the tractor soaking wet).. J2

Well, my 1951 TEA20 can lift about 800lbs. 6000lbs will be a little stretch for any tree point hitch I figure...
