What is the difference btween a TEA 20 and a TE 20.

Also my serial number tells me I have a TEA 20 with 85 mm pistons yet when I measure the sleeve it seems to be 80 mm.
Are the sleeves interchangable...i.e. can I install the 20-85 sleeves and pistons in my block?

Thanks,

Alex

Here is a visual reference to the major difference to identify a Standard Motor used in a TEA and the Contential Motor usen in the TE-20.

Basically, TE used the US built 'Continental' engine and was built at Coventry UK from 1946 to 1948. The TEA used the Standard engine and was built from 1947 to 56. The bore of the Standard engine was increased to 85mm at tractor s/no 172598. It would have been helpful if you'd included your tractor's serial number. Obviously, you can't install 85mm pistons in 80 mm liners.

Thanks for the reply Peter.

The first charactor of the serial number is hard to read but it looks like a "2"...the remaining numbers are 13100.
So I think the serial number is : 213100 which of course makes my tractor a 20-85.

But when I measure the sleeves they are 80 mm.

That's the reason for my question: Are the liners interchanable...i.e. is the block the same for the 20-85 and the 20-80 and maybe simply installed different liners at one point???

Is there a number on the block that will tell me what I have?

The blocks look the same but aren't. If the first number is 2 as you say it will be an 85mm bore tractor but most likely someone has changed the engine, look for the engine number between the distributor and the coil it will start S then some numbers and finish with E. You can convert the block to 85mm by having it bored to fit the 85mm sleeves. If it is an 85mm block, sometimes it has an "85" cast into the block behind the generator but not always. The serial numbers says it is a 12v but the engine number will show it is 6volt if it is as you say. 6v and 12v blocks are different at the starter mounting and don't readily interchange.
