I have to share with you a scary experience I had with my TO35 yesterday. I was building up a low area beside a new garage I had built where the ground sloped away at too sharp of an angle. I was using a dirt scoop and had hauled in about 20 loads to get the ground up to level to form a terrace about two feet high and wide enough to drive the tractor on. I had decided to back along the soft dirt with a full dirt scoop to pack everything down, when a large stone at the edge gave way and let the rear wheel slide slowly off the edge dropping about 2 feet. I had the tractor in low range and as it started to tip I jumped off the high side. I was sure it was going over. It slid a little more but turned slowly by itself, backing down the bank. As you may know the low range in a TO35 is a creeper speed. I jumped back on and drove it away. Needless to say I was jittery for a couple of hours. An experience like that needs to happen only once. I think my guardian angel was steering that tractor.

Sure does make you think about installing an ugly ole' ROPS doesn't it. Before it's all over with, I think I'm going to do just that. My place has plenty of ups and downs and being on a side hill gives me the tight jaw and tight other areas of my anatomy. Let's be careful out there.

Widen the rear wheel track, this will go some way to prevent it rolling over. I know its not always convenient to do this but if you don't have a Roll Bar and not much chance of getting one its the next best thing. If it is too steep it will just slide.

Thanks for the tip, John,
Are you referring to turning the rear wheels inside-out? I think I've seen tractors with that done.

Yes you can do that but it can make the tractor too wide then. You can play around with the dish and the rim and you can get it from 48" to 72" wide in 4" steps. If you need the info on how to set the rims I do have it, but most likely you can work it out. It will depend on how steep the slopes as to how wide you make it. Crossing slopes alway keep the implement as low as possible so that it wont raise the centre of gravity.
