Hi! I am from Norway and have a Ferguson TEA 20 from 1949. The tractor was bought by my grandfather in the late 50. The engine was rebuilt in the 80 som time when there was some big-end trouble. The tractor has no problem to start after som work on the starter. But when i am driving there is a problem. I will try to explain: When I "acclerate" the engine is not following. It speeds up and down an at lest its running at the speed i want. I dont now if any of you understand what i mean.

I hav over a long time tryed to figur out whats wrong. I hav change the spark plugs the distributor things but the problem is there still.

I have tought of exchange the coil and the condenser, could that help me?

I will also exchange the parts needed for upgrading from 6V to 12V.

The thing I suspect the most is the carb. I has never been rebuilt, and I tought of doing that. Could that help me? Any who have any comment or any suggestion please write!

Asbjørn

It could be sand, rust particles, water in the carb that are sloshing around and sometimes obstructing the fuel jet. It's happened several times on my Moline tractor.

Hello Asbjorn,
From what you tell us it appears to be the governor that is causing you the problems, that will if not adjusted correctly do what you say. You don't say that the engine is misfiring so it wont be a problem with anything electrical, it will be mechanical. It is possible that the governor is worn and maybe one of the weights has come off or partly off, this could also cause it, but the governor needs the settings checked first then you can rule them out and as they are the easiest to do we do them first.
I have the information for setting up your governor, if you want it, email me at:-
fergusontractors(at)tiscali.co.uk
and ask me for it, I will send it with pictures and drawings so you can follow it easily. Saying that it speeds up and down seems to be slack in the throttle linkage so it does need checking anyway. The carburettor possibly does want work doing on it but it will just make it run weak and hard to start when its wrong. But that can be taken care of with a repair kit.....John
