My earlier 6volt TEA85 block is terminally cracked. I've found a later (12volt) block. Two questions: 1. Will my smaller diam. starter fit the later block? 2.Were there any other internal changes that will surprise me when fitting my old insides to the later block? I've an idea that it'll be a hoary old parts man that knows these answers. Thanks, Bob

John, thank you. I have also since found that the bolt holes for the two starters are quite different. I think I'll look further for a "6 volt" block. You're a fine source of info. Regards Bob

Differences in the blocks are:- the starter aperture is 6v = 2-7/8" / 12v = 3-1/2". The only other difference is the mounting of the water pump, early ones had the pump mounted on the block, the later ones had the pump mounted on the head. Check if the new block has the same water pump mounting as yours (it may have a blanking plate over it) if it hasn't it will be no use to you as the Pump wont fit on your existing head unless it has been changed at sometime. If you need any torque specs. or anything else while you are rebuilding your engine, just ask and I will send them to you:- fergusontractors(at)tiscali.co.uk
