We now own 2 Ferguson TEA tractors and are looking for information on them. The serial #s are as follows: TEA-264735 and TEA-333022. We have been using the 333022 one for the last 10 years and I have to say"its my baby". Could anyone tell me what year these are?

The approximate production dates of your tractors are:- 264735 27th March 1952 / 333022 20th May 1953
the dates are to within a day or two.

Thanks Paul, according to that then my tractors would be a 1952, and 1953. So would they be considered a TE20 or TE30? I am not sure which?

TEA tell you what it is...no such thing as a TE30, there is a TO30 made in US, the bigger engined TEA never changed its name. They are just 80mm and 85mm bore engines. Some markets did have a slightly different name but that was done locally in the country they where sold but they were not that when they left the UK. You don't say where in the world you are so we cant look up any information there may be about that country.

Sorry John, Since I have been looking on this site I realize that it is a TEA20. Both of them. We live in Sask Canada. We are now in the process of fixing up the first one, needs motor work, blowing oil and smoke from dip stick(not a very good sign) and the other one we just bought needs some work on the hydrolics, it was sort of working when we bought it but it doesnt seem to lift now, changed oil (very black and sluggy) but there must be some more issues,we used it for the king cutter mulcher and worked for a short while(but not great) and now it doesnt seem to want to lift with out someone helping it along. Any suggestions? Looking on this form it seems to be that the first thing we should look at is the Control Valve.

The engine smoking from the dipstick, you need to check the breather pipe on the valve cover, the banjo bolt that goes through the pipe and into the cover can block up with sludge etc. if the oil changing has been neglected. On some engines there is a valve in the bolt that comprises of a heavy "washer" with a jiggle pin though the centre to keep the hole clean. On some engines there is a long adaptor on the other end of the pipe that screws into the inlet manifold just above the carburettor, this has the valve assy. in there. Make sure that they are clean and the pipe too, it should suck through this pipe, into the manifold and burn the fumes. There is also a thin (3/8" bore?)pipe that attaches to the Air Cleaner at one end and the cylinder block at the other, just behind the carburettor, make sure that is clean too as that is supposed to suck all the oily fumes from the crankcase into the Air Cleaner and burn them, at the same time being used as an upper cylinder lubricant to stop the valves from sticking. You may find that this will cure the oil from the dipstick, it does depend on how bad it is though, it still may require Piston Rings.
The tractor with Hydraulic problems, don"t go stripping anything down on this or we will never find the fault. It may be only a blown gasket or "O" ring. If you email me at:- fergusontractors(at)tiscali.co.uk
reminding me what the problems are I will send you some trouble-shooting Information sheets I have written for this purpose, they will tell you where to look and what to do, there will be pictures and a parts list for the parts that usually go wrong. I have a lot of these covering most things so if you have anything else that needs to be done just say and I will send it. I will send you a list of what I have anyway so you can get them as and when you need them, there is no need to try to get everything all at once, plus I do change them for your particular problem if necessary as not all faults do have the same remedy although they appear similar.

My information shows them to be uk built TEA 20s of 1952&1953 vintage with the Standard Motors Gas engine.
