Hi friends,

Does anyone have any information about the TE 60 tractor, specifications, history, if anyone is left and so forth.

Bill

Hi and thanks for your input.

I do have the TE 60 book, but it does not say much about spec. except lift capacity about 6000 lbs, and biggest engine around 75 hp.

I do know they came with 2 hoods / bonnets. The first type made it look like a big TE 20, but the latest type made it look more like the UK built FE/MF 35.

I also understand that this was a tractor for bigger plows/plougs, 5 furrows or so.

Well, there are rumors that they built more than 6. The only thing I can say is that I for some reason should see one some time in the future, and the owner is willing to sell, I will do anything I can to buy it. :-) But who on this list would say anything else ?

I have also heard that they did have some trouble with the engines, and I have also heard rumors somewhere that some of the tractors had their engines replaced with a Perkins. But, if we are talking about just one, or several, I can't say.

At the moment I have misplaced my book about the TE 60, but it will look for it.

Thanks for all the input.

Bill

Bill,

The TE-60 program is also covered in the comprehensive work "A Global Corporation" by Nuefeld. This is a 1969 history from Massey as a stand alone company through Massey-Ferguson's formation. From what I remember reading over a year ago. The TE-60 was Harry's design for a new large Ferguson. Cheif Engineer Herman Kelmm's pet project was the TO-35. During this time Harry's role in the company was waining, in fact in within the year he would sell off his stock and be removed from MHF.

Approximately 8 TE-60's were built and tested. MHF management asked Kelmm to do a fesibility study on the TE-60 and you can guess his conclusions. The orders went out to cut up the proto types and destroy the engineering drawings.

There is one story that a single TE-60 escaped the destruction and was used on an english farm through 1970 when he took it to MF for clutch repairs. MF conficated the tractor and cut it up.

Jeff

We ran a comprehensive story about the TE-60 in Ferguson Furrows. If you will contact me at the following, I will send you a copy, Bill. I'll need your snail mail address.

The New Ferguson Album shows one picture of the 60
but no specs. Cost of production would have been
too high. No volume production happened. According
to the The Ferguson Album about 6 blocks were cast
but unknown how many were built up.Most pictures
show it as a 45C with a petrol engine. Chuck

Are you able to copy the pictures and send them to me Chuck, I only have one of the English version and you cant really tell what it is. It is possible that we have two different tractors here as well.

Don't think you will have much luck with this Bill, I hope you do. But they have been searching for one of these for a long time and as far as I know and the people I talk to know, there isn't one, they were scrapped by MHF
