swinging sway bar install questions

Well, I got a swinging sway bar kit about 5 months ago for my TO-30 and am just now getting around to install it. It origionally appeared much simpler before I started but has become a little more complicated. Under my tractor, I already had some sort of bracket mounted on the 4 studs. I have no idea what it was for, but it looked like a factory component. Anyways, when I removed it and put on the new bracket with the kit, the sway bar itself hit the studs and bolts. Plus, the neck (center part)on the stud would not let the nut tighten up. Any ideas? are these maybe not factory studs? If I go to the dealer and ask for the factory size studs, will this fix my problem?

Secondly, when I install the plate by the pto shaft, I first remove the nuts and brackets for the chains. Once I put the new plat on, do I then put the old chain brackets back on? I see the plate has a hole that wants to be for the chains, but the origional bracket had two holes.

Thanks,
Mike

got your message. I am not quites sure what the bracket is for. I think it ios for an origional swinging bar. Let me do some research.

Mike

1-be careful with bolt length if replacing studs... too long can make through holes out of the blind ones.
2- as for the check chains, I've seen both.. some use the holes on the plate and others re-install the brackets. (I don't know if there are fastener length issues.) Jim

I THINK I understand your question. I installed a fixed drawbar on an old Massey 50 a few years ago. I used the "universal" kit parts available typically through TISCO or TSC. The bracket that attached under the rear end is slightly different than the originals. The studs left from the original were too long. They interfered with the drawbars ability to swing from side to side. I removed the old studs and replaced with hex bolts. Seems like 2 were 1" and the other 2 were 1-1/2" long.

I think that is what I will need to do, remove the studs and use hex bolts. Is this what most of you guys do? Hopefully, the thread is a standard.

How about the check chains, just use the new bracket mounting hole or reinstall the factory mounting brackets on top of the new bracket?

Take off the O.E.M. casted sway chain mounts. Use the holes in the new drawbar bracket.

The context of your post looks like you're referring to a swinging drawbar. Did you try connecting the drawbar to the bracket that was already under your tractor? The plate around the pto should have a hole on each side for the check chain pins. One on each side is all you use/need. I think we may need pictures to see what interference you're referring to. If it would work well with the original bracket, that's what I would use.

sorry, my bad. It is a swinging draw bar. the interferrence is with the studs/bolts holding the bottom plate on and the swinging drawbar itself. My side to side movement is limited because I hit the studs/bolts.
