Started stripping down my tef last week but when I went to "remove" the battery box there was only 4 bits of metal held on by the fixing bolts (battery box rusted away) I want to use 1, 12v battery instead of 2, 6volt batteries. Does anyone have a diagram / photo / drawing of a battery box that I can use to make a replacement?
I was told that the battery box is the same size for the 12v as it is for the 6v. Is this true???
Thanks,
Arderra.

A good heavy duty battery suitable for a TEF would be larger (longer) than the original 6v battery that was fitted. All you have to do is get the measurements of the 12v battery and make a carrier up a little longer and fit it on the left side as there is nothing in the way there. I have a picture of the original one from the parts list and I think I have another one that is available again as aftermarket spares. Email if you need it. You don"t say where you are in the world but do bear in mind that the colder your climate is then the better the battery needs to be, don"t expect one from a car to start this engine when it is cold weather, you do need a Heavy Duty type. despite what the "good neighbour" or local tractor expert may tell you. A good battery will last a lot longer than one that is only just capable of doing the job. fergusontractors(at)tiscali.co.uk
