I have an oil leak in my rear axel on my TEA20 and want to fix it. The leak is around the brass ring, where the axel bolts up. Is this a seal? What procedure should I follow too do this?

Just where is this brass ring you refer to, do you mean that it is at the back of the brake back plate where it attaches to the axle trumpet housing. If this is the case it isn't a seal it is a shim that you can see, if it is out of position it is the nuts securing the brake back plate that are loose allowing it to move. It will need new gaskets either side of the brake back plate and the shims fit between the gasket and the axle housing. Tighten the nuts holding the axle shaft and check them periodically, like once a month. If it isn't that shim that is showing, please email again giving a better location for it.

Yes its that brass shim that I was refering too. I sealed both sides of it with a liquid teflon and am hoping that will be the solution. I installed new brake pads today and am going to mount the new tires and rims tomorrow. Will install the tune up kit and hopefully she will run. I am looking for a supplier here in New Brunswick, Canada for new fenders and a hood assembley.
thanks Barney

Hi Barney,
The Sparex distributor for Canada is Central East Farm Supplies at Newcastle, they will be able to help you with those parts I am sure but they will put you in contact with one of their dealers as they don't supply direct. There are two types of fenders available, the original type that are riveted and bolted to a steel frame or a similar looking type that has the frame welded inside, like monocoque construction, it depends on how good your old frame is, as that type would be cheaper to just replace the fender skins. The Hood, there is only one and that is made by Sparex, it is available here in UK but not sure if it has reached you yet, but you can ask, the part number is S43392 go here to check CEFS site:-http://www.cefs.com/massey1.htm Regarding the oil leak you had, keep the nuts tight on the axle-shafts as they can come loose if you have a lot of shunting to do with the tractor, and that is what causes them to come loose, when they do that it wears the paper gaskets away and they then leak, they do need checking regularly to make sure they are tight.
Just how the liquid teflon will cope I have no idea, but if it happens again CEFS or their dealer will have the parts for you.....John
