At the Ferguson EXPO in NE, I saw several of the bumpers that Scott made. He did a very good job on them. I had an original bumper along so I could compare the two. I do a bit of fabricating myself and I would say that it would be quite a feat to build your first one even with the pattern right next to you. The materials are quite thick and would not be the easist to get bent correct. Then there is the release mechanism and the swivel rivet to get right plus having to shop for all of the correct pieces of steel.

What Is a Patent?
A patent for an invention is the grant of a property right to the inventor, issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Generally, the term of a new patent is 20 years from the date on which the application for the patent was filed in the United States or, in special cases, from the date an earlier related application was filed, subject to the payment of maintenance fees. U.S. patent grants are effective only within the United States, U.S. territories, and U.S. possessions. Under certain circumstances, patent term extensions or adjustments may be available.

The right conferred by the patent grant is, in the language of the statute and of the grant itself, “the right to exclude others from making, using, offering for sale, or selling” the invention in the United States or “importing” the invention into the United States. What is granted is not the right to make, use, offer for sale, sell or import, but the right to exclude others from making, using, offering for sale, selling or importing the invention. Once a patent is issued, the patentee must enforce the patent without aid of the USPTO.

There are three types of patents:

1) Utility patents may be granted to anyone who invents or discovers any new and useful process, machine, article of manufacture, or composition of matter, or any new and useful improvement thereof;

2) Design patents may be granted to anyone who invents a new, original, and ornamental design for an article of manufacture; and

3) Plant patents may be granted to anyone who invents or discovers and asexually reproduces any distinct and new variety of plant.

If this bumper design was even patened, it would have expired over 30 years ago. At the time patent rights were only extended 17 years.

Jeff

Barry I am sorry if providing correct information offended you.

I got the impression the previous poster did not understand what a patent was or what patenting something meant. The information is from the US patent office and only applies in the States, Canada, UK and the rest of the world may be different.

Jeff

Jeff --- I worked for the the Federal Government in Canada for over 25 years. Trust me, it take a lot more then that to offend me then that. I just find Scotts approach a little bit over the top, thats all. After all, his track record isnt the best according to some folks on this site. When I seen bumpers lined up like cord wood for a photo op, and being offered for sale I had to chuckle to myself. If anyone has a welder, Im sure they might make there own for a $1.25 including labour. Stay well Barry

I hope Scott does well with the bumpers but let me tell you; I just received an E-mail from him ( at least 2 years after my original inquiry ) stating" I am sorry I didn"t meet your time frame" and adding "thanks for trashing me on the YT forum". This is the 1st response I"ve received from Scott after several e-mails about spare parts and about the bumpers he was supposedly able to deliver after the Ohio Ferguson convention. I believe Scott is probably a nice young man and I hate that all this bickering has been laid on fellow tractor enthusiasts, I feel that it would behoove Scott to be be a better communicator and to deliver what he says he can deliver. That being said, I hope we can all move on and continue to enjoy the greatest tractors ever made. Wish I could go to this years convention. Paul F B

For $150 I guess I would line them up for their Kodak moment to, pretty sure I can make one for a lot less, but good luck selling them just the same

They look very nice--great job.
I hate to ask this with the name "fold down bumper", but I will....do they fold down or hinge off to one side. I was trying to see from the pics before I ask such a stupid question.
Do you have any pics of one folded down?
These are very interesting.
Will they bolt onto the 35's as well?
How much are they?
Again, good job. Your fergy is sharp as well.
