I recently bought this ferguson. It had not been running for a while but stored in barn. I am in the process of replacing all the fluids. It has been recommended I use sae 90 for the transmission sae30 non detergent for the crankcase. Can anyone tell me the capacities for these? I have heard 5 gallons for trans and 1gallon for crankcase. Also I think this tractor is a 1952. Am I right? Any help I can get I'd appreciate.

NAPA carries the GL-1 gear oil in 5 gallon buckets and 1 gallon jugs. I bought a 5 gallon bucket last summer.

GL1 is a basic gear lubricant without EP(Extreme pressure)additives. The idea is that brass parts in the hydraulic system would be attacked by EP chemicals under heat. You should be able to find the GL1. A Ford NH tractor dealer is a good possibility. You could use turbine oil, worm gear oil or compressor oil and get away with it.

You are correct, it was made in 1952...on the 23rd or 25th of Feb (24th was Sunday)that is as near as I can get it. The oil is GL1 90W which is as thick as engine oil NOT like 90 gear oil. or you can use 15W-30 Multi-grade, you could also use this in the engine if it is not worn. The capacities are 5imp gallons (24US quarts) and 12 pints(5 US quarts) for the engine plus 1 pint for the oil filter if you change that too. The engine oil should be changed every 120 hours and the filter every 240 hours. Note that there are THREE drain plugs for the transmission. If you would like more technical information for your tractor, email me at:-
