I have an oily area down the back of the backing plate on each side of the rear axle between back of backing plate and end of axle housing. The parts list does not clearly show where the gasket and shims go exactly, manual says put them back as taken off. Just want to be sure of the right order they are supposed to fit and exactly where they are located. Between backing plate and end of axle housing or between axle retainer hub and front of backing plate. Are these assembled dry or is it usual to put sealer on both sides of gasket and shims? Any info would be appreciated.

The gaskets fit one each side of the brake back plate, the shims fit between the end of the axle housing and the back plate gasket. No need to use any sealer if you use new gaskets, you may like to use a smear of grease to hold the gaskets in place though. Torque the bolts to 45-50lbs.ft. and check then regularly as they do come slack with all the shunting to and fro that a tractor does. When the bolts come slack it allows movement between the back plate and the axle which wears away the gaskets and it starts to leak again. When you adjust the brakes, don't alter the brake rods, this is not the way to do it. If you need info on this email me at:-
