I purchased a TO30 a few weeks ago and the first thing I did was check the fluid levels. I found a nail in place of the hydraulic dipstick located under the 3 point hitch lever. I need a new stick but in the interm can some one tell me how long the stick is and what the measurement from the end of the stick to the full level is? I'll use a coat hanger pushed down into the hole to check if sufficient fluid is present. I live in a cold climate any suggestions as to best oil selection would help. Cheers

The hydraulics holds 6 US gallons of GL1 90W oil if you are in a cold climate as you say, you can use 15W-30 Multi-grade, this wont get as thick in the cold weather as GL1. When the oil is to the correct level it should just barely run out of the bottom screw hole on one of the round side covers below the seat position. If it has had no dipstick for a while, it would be advisable to drain the oil from all 3 drain plugs when the oil is hot.

Hi, my didstick was missing on my TO20 and it to had a nail in place which lets in water. Be sure you change the oil, and I got one from an old ferggis parts guy that is 6 1/2 overall up to the top of bell and the curve pull. The maks are 1 1/4 inches from the end to full mark. LOL Bob

Thanks for the info guys. I just finished draining and flushing the oil. Should have read the post about draining when hot. That would have made things go quicker. I spent 2 days running around following dead leads for the correct oil. Having spent numerous hours on the phone I finally settled on the word from an agricultural sales rep who said he referred to old books he kept for this reason. Seemed good to me. I spent 2 more days wandering around looking for a parts washer to hook up to my compressor to spray out the tractor. I used diesel and must say created quite a mess. There is a post about carrying out this process and its states to use a pump sprayer. I thought I would do one better with the compressor. Bad idea. Seems diesel vaporizes and creates a rather unpleasant atmosphere. As for the dipstick I will take the posts ideas and put something together to function as a measuring device. I also had the nail and found lots of water in the drain pans. I have looked to buying parts (dipstick) from Yesterday Tractor however it seems they will not sell parts to Canada. Thanks again for all the help. More questions to follow I’m sure.
