Have what I believe is a 1952 Ferguson TEA20. How do I tell if it has a 85mm or 87mm motor? Number on the block is SC30134E
Thanks

It is an 85mm, they don't fit 87mm engines in TEA20's. and there were no 87mm engine until 1956 in the FE35 series. It would also have the prefix of SF and the suffix of EL or EH denoting the compression ratio (high or low)

Also I notice this site show's gasket kits for both 85 and 87 in the TEA20 parts list?? Is this just a mistake by this company?

This is an error, while the 87mm engine would fit in a TEA it was never fitted as a production option. There was an 80mm version of this engine originally then it was increased to 85mm in about 1950 although there were slight variations to the engine during the rest of the production run there were no major changes until it was fitted into the FE35 later the MF35 and then the MF135 when it was changed to 87mm

Options galore in reply to John (UK), 10-19-2006 13:03:21
You could also fit pistons and sleeves meant for an old Triumph car. They came in 83 mm and 86 mm, and there are overbore sizes too. And the guys who race them even use up to 92 mm.
All kinds of options!
I have been thinking, since I have the parts around, maybe I could fit a TR4 head and twin side draft SU carbs to one of my TEA20s. Maybe I would have to move the cam over too. I wonder if I could rev it up to five grand then?
Steering a TEA20 going down the road at 40 mph would be a thrill.

Thanks! Another question for you as well, while looking at my original manifold gaskets and the gasket's shown on this site in the parts area, they look completely different? Or is the pic on this site wrong do you know?

The manifold gaskets for all 85 and 87mm engines are the same, the picture actually shows the gaskets for the Diesel engine.
