Just bought a 1958 TO-35.When I when to change the engine oil,to my surprise, instead of 5 quarts of oil,8 to 9 quarts spilled out.It had a very thin viscosity and smelled like gas.My question is,do you have to keep the valve on the glass gas bowl turned off when your not running the tractor, and if so,does the valve close fully off or do you still get some sepage by.

I just bought a 51' TO20 that has gas in the oil also. Are there other possibilities for gas being in the oil, other than the gas bowl? What kind of damage can this do to the engine, mine could have been this way a while. Also, my plugs were fouled badly and I don't think all cylinders are working. Could the gas in the oil be related to bad rings?

Hi Jeb,
Yep. I've been told to always close the valve when not in use. It could also create a dangerous situation where the engine gets a hydraulic lock and possibly ruin the motor.
