I am new to tractors so this may seem like a no brainer to you guys. The 3 pt. hitch on my TO-30 goes up and down just fine, but there doesn't seem to be any down pressure on my blade. It just kinda follws the conture of the ground. Also the draft (?) lever creeps up as you go along- like when I plow snow. One other thing . Is there supposed to be gear lube or something in the steering box? Mine is bone dry. Any info will help. Thanks.

There should be 90 wt. gear lube in the steering box. Mine leaks too. Put some in and see if it leaks either out the side down the bell housing or down thru the transmission and out the bottom before you fill it all the way. You may have to get the tractor hot for it to leak. Some people use grease instead which doesn't leak much, but I think gear oil is the correct lube. Make sure you don't let water get in the steering gear as it may freeze and crack the casing and there are no new replacement casings, only used expensive ones. Removing the steering gear is not so much hard as it is tedious.

the only way to find out is to ask! the people on this board will be happy to help. first, there are hardly any tractors with down pressure on the 3pt hitch. some tried and it didn't work very well(something about the rear wheels losing traction when they came off the ground) adjusting the length of the top link will give you better cutting action. the draft control lever has a friction disc to keep it from moving. it could be worn or missing. there is a castellated nut holding the lever on. just remove the cotter pin and adjust it to suit.
