i own a MF 165 and the three point hitch does not have any lifting power in it. i notice it tries to lift the snow blower which it lifted no problem last year but as soon as it has any real weight it stops. the first thing i want to do is top up the oil but i want to make sure i am using the right oil and filling the pump in the right place.
is the fill hole right next to the shifter?
what type of oil is the best?

thanks

The oil should be GL1 90W or 15W-30 Multigrade. You fill it through the plug alongside the shifter lever, it will take a while for it to level out so don't keep adding more and more, it takes 6.5 imp gallons (28 US quarts)to fill to correct level from EMPTY. The hydraulics not lifting, could be a blown "O" ring or the Safety Valve needs replacing. Take a round side cover off and lift an implement and look inside with a flashlight for any oil leaks from the top or from the front end or swirling of the oil (under pressure) from the Pump which is straight in front of the port hole. DON'T PUT YOUR HANDS INSIDE. If you locate the leak, email me and I will tell you what to do next and how to cure it.
