This might sound really stupid but where do you add oil to the MF 35/135 gearbox. Is the nut next to the gear levers?

i think 6-1/2 gallons is the correct amount for older fergie 35's, so thanks john UK...but i have a manual for the MF-35's that says they take 8 gals? i just changed mine this weekend after installing some wet lines using the isolator and control valve kit from TISCO. I used the straight mineral oil from agco. thinking it needed 8 gal., i over filled it...now i'm draining some back out. check your year model...the stuff isn't cheap. i paid about $36 for each 2-1/2 gal jug.

Yes, that's the filler location. Use MF perma-tran III oil. Don't use motor oil. I've used other oil that meets MF specs but the MF oil works better and isn't much more expensive. Dave

Yes that is the correct filler for the Gearbox / hydraulic oil. use the correct oil too, it should be type GL1 90W or 15W/30 Multi-grade. There are two drain plugs on this tractor, one on the gearbox and one on the hydraulics below the seat position, both on the left side. you will need 6-1/2 gallons, no more no less. It will take a while to level out, so just pour that amount in and check it after about an hour while its cold weather. You can use the tractor in the meantime.

GL1 or engine oil does NOT meet MF specifications for the 135. You're thinking older MF tractors with brass bushings and minimal hydraulics. The oil in a MF-135 should meet MF specification M-1129 or M-1129A. That's NOT GL1.

actually I missed something out of that posting, I got disturbed...it should have had underneath...."for the 35 tractor only" I wasn"t quoting the 135 at all.
Thank you for pointing that out....John
