If you need to renew the filter mesh you can buy a pack from a Sparex dealer as part number S43231

Usually you just need to clean the oil filter by soaking it in a good solvent and letting it sit in the solvent for as long as it takes to disolve the crud. If it's really filthy, use lacquer thinner. Otherwise gasoline or paint thinner will work. After soaking, let the particulate settle in the container and put a couple of cupfulls of the solvent in the filter and shake it around and kinda' rinse it out. Then let it dry and refill the oil cup with 30W oil and your set. The way it works is that the updraft of air when the engine is running pulls oil up on the filter mesh. The heavy particles get thrown in the oil cup by centrifugal action when the flow turns 180o and passes up into the filter mesh. the particles that are lighter that don't get centrifuged out sytick to the ol on the mesh. When you shutdown, the oil drains off the mesh and carries the dirt with it into the cup. Check the oil cup often and when it get dirty replace it. I use the cheapest 30W detergent oil I can find for the oil cup.

Hi Jerry,
I had just begun what I expected to be a lengthy internet search for an explanation of how the TEA20 airfilter works (since I"ve just opened up mine and it looks pretty disgusting) and I very quickly came across your posting. Thnx for your informative post.
