I searched the archives as well as this site's available parts and am having no luck locating the correct thermostat and gasket for my TO-30. Anyone know if they are available at local parts stores or is this going to take more googling to find?

Thanks George and Aaron, I would have been scratching my head trying to figure out how to put a regular thermostat in the outlet. Will order one. I always wondered why the plugs would soot up and now realize that the previous owner had removed the thermostat at some point in time. Never really was a problem last summer but sure makes for a long warm up in the winter.

Oops, I forgot about that. That particular thermostat is pretty easy to find. I was thinking about the later continentals.

Lee, your TO-30 thermostat goes inside the top radiator hose, no gasket necessary. Your right, this parts site does not list a thermo for a TO-20/30 for some reason. All is not lost, go over to the N parts link on this site (copied below), and you will find a thermo for the 8N/9N, which is also a perfect fit for your TO-30. The Fergy Manual lists the TO-30 thermo as 160 degree start to open, and 190 degree full open, with a 7PSI radiator cap on your TO-30.

You can also buy a thermostat thru Tisco & most any local tractor supply shop. Last one I got for my TO was from a Ford/New Holland dealer. Yes, it was also listed for a N in their catolog. You can try Carquest, etc., but I'd recommend a NAPA if you try a car parts place. You will have better luck there.

Warning on these thermostats, they are flow direction sensitive. If you insert it the wrong way in your hose, it WON'T OPEN, and overheat your TO in a few minutes. Look for the direction of flow arrow in the side of the thermo, the flow goes out the engine, thru the thermo, and into the top of the radiator.

George.

Your local NAPA store can match one up for you. Or if it is the same that is used in the G176 Continental, then you may be able to use a Stant 13006. This 160 degree thermostat fit my MF65. I had to drill a 1/16 hole in the body of the thermostat as it was mounted horizontal with no way for air to escape. Not sure on the gasket. Mine came with the engine kit. HTH

Let's go Mountaineers,

Aaron
