I just bought a '54 TO30, when I went to look at it, the lift worked alright with a bush hog on it. When I got it home I was taking the bush hog off. I already had the top link off and decided I didn't want to put it in that spot, but the lift wouldn't lift the bush hog back up. I lifted the back of the bush hog up and reattached the top link and the lift worked again. After un hooking the bush hog the lift then went up by itself and wouldn't go back down. The lift goes down eventually after stopping the engine, but it only goes part of the way down. Any ideas what this could be? Thanks, Anthony

I have had that problem while plowing snow. Both my cylinder on the front for the blade and the 3 point hitch will not go down unless the clutch is in or the power takeoff is off. It was working fine and then this happened. Any ideas???

The big Control Spring behind the seat, has it got a lot of end play in it, you should just be able to turn it when the hydraulics are lifted with an implement on it. It needs to be adjusted correctly.

Thanks John. Maybe I'll have time tomorrow before dark to check the Control Spring. How do you go about adjusting it??

you need to remove the pin through the Yoke end on the rod through the Spring and turn it to tighten it, it may be very tight ot seized and you would have to heat it up, don't force it or you could twist the Control Fork. If you need more info, email me at: fergusontractors(at)tiscali.co.uk
tell me what you find and I can send you what you need.....John

I need more information. What was the position of the control lever "...when the lift went up by itself and wouldn't go back down"?

Jerry, the lever was still in the down position when it went back up.

As John(UK) says check the control spring and if that is ok you may have to adjust the control lever. You'll need a manual r maybe ask John (UK) and he can talk you through the method.
