I own a 1952 T030 and I am very happy with it.
I was wondering if anybody can tell me the advantages in switching from 6v to 12v , what parts would have to be replaced and how expensive this would be.Also I have had a oil leak and now it is getting worse. There is a cover behind the oil pan with a hole in it.I assume that is under the gear box. That's were it is leaking out of. Can anybody help ?

Changing to 12v has a couple advantages but in my estimation don't outweigh the expense and trouble. Disadvantage: You need to change the generator for an alternator and the voltage regulator and light bulbs, if you have them. I've heard pro and con about changing the starter, some say you must others say no. My unit was changed to 12v when I got it 6 years ago and it still has the 6v starter - it's fine.

Advantage 1: supposed better availiblity of parts and battery.
Advantage 2: quicker, easier starts especially in the cold.

A well maintained engine with a 6v system will serve you well. Personally, I would leave well enough alone if your generator, regulator and 6v (large diameter cables) are ok. MHO

The oil leak can be two things if it's leaking where you say, most likely it's the rear main crankshaft seal. This is the most common leak in that area. Or it could be the seal on the front of the tranny,- less likely - also it leaks heavier liquid. The unfortunate part of these leaks is that you must split the engine from the tranny to fix either. I know, I've been there.
