Other than the engine , how much interchanability of parts between the old Ford 8N 9N and the Fergie ? Such as axles , steering box parts , trannies etc etc . It would give a person more options when scrounging for parts .

There is probably more commonality between the 2N/9N Fords and the Ferguson's. Not so much with the 8N. As John points out , the Ferguson Parts maual (TO-20, T0-30, TEA-20 & TE-20 all in one manual) denotes the common parts and they are generally common in the hydraulics and 3 pt hitch/PTO area. the Ferguson's had a 4 speed trransmission while the 2N/9N were 3 speeds so theres no commonlity there. Some of the steering linkages/end fittings are common as I recall.

If you can find one of the old original Harry Ferguson Inc. parts books for the Ferguson tractors, they list all the parts that are interchangeable between the Ferguson tractors and the 9N-2N. (Mine is dated Nov. 1952)

Just to add to that, not all the parts that are listed in that book now interchange as Ford must have made some changes to the parts over the years, maybe so that they will fit the 8N tractor too, so double check everything before you buy.

The hydraulic pressure relief valve is interchangable,BUT, the Ford valve is set to a lower pressure than the Ferguson valve. If memory serves me, the Ford valve is set to 1,700lbs, and the Ferguson valve is set to 2,300lbs. A search of this board will find the accurate figures, I remember such a discussion several years ago. I haven't visited this website for over a year now so I'm out of touch.

Just about the TE 20 series hydraulic pump relief valve pressures.
The first TE 20 series tractors should have a pressure of maximum 1500 psi (means lift capacity of 600 lbs.), and at some point it is raised to 2000 lbs, (means lift capacity of 800 lbs.), and some later again when the new hydraulic reinforced hydraulic lift cover with built in relief valve the pressure relief valve was set at minimum static opening pressure at 1900 psi, and maximum pressure should not exceed 2400 psi, (means lift capacity of 1000 lbs.)
I have no idea if the same apply to the TO 20 series.

Just a note since it was brought up. Maybe some knows when the changes took place.
