The fuel shut off valve has developed a small leak when turned off. I have tightened the fuel line, replaced the bowl gasket, tightened the small nut holding the stem of the valve to the body and still it leaks when turned off. Any ideas? I think it is dripping along the stem. I looked at the replacements here on this website, one does not look original and the other has no picture with it. Which would be the correct one to use if I have to replace it. Drat, now I have a gas stain on my new paint job as well as terrible fuel economy.

lee...did you remove the stem from the body? maybe there's an o-ring or something in there that's worn? i never had one apart so i don't know. by the way...that could explain why you ran out of gas that time...(grin)

There is a rubber piece like an oring but probably 3 times wider. The old ones are leather. You can order replacement shaft for these. The new ones only have one washer and I take another off an old stem and place 1 on each side of the rubber grommet and the valve works easier. The rubber is compressed to where the OD swells enought to fill the cavity but is always grinding on the side opposite the valve handle.
