What I thought was real bad news turned out to be not so bad this weekend when I chaned the oil in my 49 TE-20. I had checked the oil level and had thick milky white oil on the dipstick. It was also in my oil add spout. But when I changed the oil it didn't have any in it. Someone told me that condensation can form in the dipstick tube (for lack of better words) and in the oil spout. I assume this is what is happening, but is there anyway to keep it from happening? I looked at the dipstick and there is no seal at the top and wonder if there is supposed to be one. Same thing on my oil cap. Any ideas? Thanks! By the way, also flushed the radiator and other than dirty fluid it didn't have any oil in it either.

I can tell you how to not have condensation in your transmission or differential. Back in the days when they used these tractors long and hard, they didn't have this problem like we do today. The reason is they are not worked enough to drive the moisture out of them. If you were to plow or disk or mow with your tractor till you lay your hand down on the transmission and it is hot to the touch, you have driven most all the moisture out. We will continue to have this problem because today they just sit around waiting on the snow or something and don't get enough use. L8R----Fred OH

You could store it in a heated and airconditioned garage !!! Humidity and temperature change are what cause the water to condense inside an engine. Ever notice when you have a cool garage and back out side into a warmer more humid driveway? The windows all fog over. Same thing happens to a cold engine that is subject to humidity and the water forms inside the engine. Best thing you can do is to change the oil regularly as you should anyhow- unless you're wife says go get the heat and a/c. Don't worry about it - it's normal.
