good advice, i have seen them but never stopped, i will now. The distributor raises up through the clamp, just the shaft and the distributor houseing comes up--i guess I will pull it on out to inspect the clamp and see why it isnt holding onto the shaft---i thought there might be an offset or some kind of flute for the clamp to hold onto or act as a seat--but that is not the case--the clamp is covered in grease, but all the nuts and bolts seem to be there---hopefully it just needs tightening---seems strange though, when they ran it out of oil 2 years ago, the tractor was running good before the oil went out-i wonder if that distributor was loose and the tractor ran OK anyway?--I dont think they messed with the distributor when they started to take it apart--so if that distributor was loose, would the tractor still run?
thanks

there should be a tightening screw on the right side of the clamp that squeezes it onto the shaft. maybe that screw is missing? if it's there have you tried tightening it?

i suppose it COULD run like that but how it would stay in time i don't know.

thanks i will check that to see if it needs tightening-the clamp and tightening screw/bolt is there--i was too unsure to try to tighten it up-now I will do that today at some point and see what happens---will post what i see and results. Will have to do compression test later in the week.
thanks again

im also about the fire up a new digital camera, will have to learn the process of transferring photos onto computer then onto internet--maybey i can use photos in my posts here.

mike...we like pitchers! and yes, a picture is worth a thousand words when trying to describe something. i wanted to post a pic of my distributor for you, but found out the better half had taken the camera with her on her trip.
