For those that asked, here’s where I am tonight. Block is back from the machine shop, lightly decked and line bored. They did not pin the caps as there was not enough material

For those that have not pulled a Ford motor apart, this is only half of the motor parts

I checked for the pistons hitting the head since it was decked and they all 4 did. This is the result of 2 hours of work with an air tool and a small drum sander. Sand, clean, check, sand, clean, check,... Its helpful to install 1 piston at a time and check so you know which one is hitting. We have a "flat" table at work and the head was checked and did not need milled. If this head need milled again its probably time for a new head. I'm trying to keep it as the casting marks are consistent with the block numbers

Progress at last, at least it’s going together instead of apart.

The crank did not have to be ground again, they polished it instead. After hearing of my oil pressure problem the Machine shop asked for the rods and took a little off the caps and re-borred the rods so they are perfect ID for the bearings. This is much the same way the fix the caps when line boring the block.

Nice pics. Question: Is the piston height from pin to top the same for 3-ring and 4-ring pistons or is the 4-ring piston taller?

Indiana:

The piston height should be the same for 4 ring pistons as three ring pistons. The fourth ring is an additional oil control ring on the piston skirt below the wrist pin.

The last time I looked I could only find flat topped 4 ring pistons. The three ring pistons are available either flat topped or slightly domed. The domed pistons increase power noticably.
