My TO30 PTO (buisness-end) got chewed-up the other day while bush-hogging my property -- Does anyone know if I need to replace the whole shaft or can I use a PTO adaptor or an over-running clutch to fit over the damaged PTO? BTW, the shaft itself spins fine and doesn't appear to be damaged.

I appreciate the advise.

Regards to all.

Any new shaft will NOT have ORC capability built-in. You'll still need an ORC, so get whichever size shaft you need to fit your current ORC.

If you have been bush hogging, you should already have been using an over running coupler. And if the PTO shaft spins or slips inside the ORC, and if the shaft is damaged (not the coupler) then you will need to replace the PTO shaft. Not sure how putting an ORC (or any other attachment for that matter) on it will change what you have already experienced, unless I didn"t read your question correctly. I suppose if the shaft is not damaged too badly, you might be able to build up the splines by welding onto it and make do for awhile, but I"ve never heard of anyone trying that. New shafts are about $110. You can get the full size shaft instead of your current smaller shaft and be more in tune with modern equipment for same price, but if you already have an ORC for your original shaft, you would need to buy a new ORC, adding to your expense. Hope that helps

Hi Phil, I forgot to ask you about the ORC -- will I need to get this in addition to the newer type of PTO shaft or does the newer type PTO shaft accomplishes what the ORC will do?

Thanks again.

Normand, you may have got the answer on this already, but her it is anyway. If you get a new style PTO shaft, you will still need to get a new ORC. The only actual change with the new style shaft is the splined shaft diameter is 1 3/8" diam. which is more the modern standard size, not the 1 1/8 " original diameter.

The ORC is additional functionality that is needed for a rotary cutter, but is not needed for a post hole digger, or some other attachments.
