I'm installing a new camshaft in my TO-35 Standard Motors diesel. There are 6 bolts that hold the camshaft gear to a hub, and then one big nut (about 1" diameter) that screws onto the camshaft to attach the hub/gear to the camshaft. The first time I overtightened the nut and broke the camshaft. What is the proper torque for that nut?

It doesn't list it in the Service Manual at all. The screws that fasten the chain-wheel to the hub are set pretty low at 18 - 20 lbs ft. As it has a lock-tab to secure it then it should be alright set not too tight. Are you aware of the offset on the chain wheel fixing holes to allow for a "vernier" adjustment on the chain wheel for the valve timing? If you need the information just email me and I will send it:- fergusontractors@tiscali.co.uk
if you do mail just tell me again what it is all about then I won't confuse you with someone else..John
