I would have sworn I had plenty of anti-freeze in my TO-30 when I parked it last fall. I went to start in in March, I checked the water, low. I'll fill it whe I drive around the bard. I checked the oil & found the gray sludge! I have delayed doing anything about it until I had time.
Today I drug it to to my shop. I drained the oil. The first several seconds, it was clear water (so much for hte anti-freeze!). Then the sludge. While the oil plug was out, I filled the radiator. I watched the drain hole for an hour or so & did not see any water. I changed the oil filter, plugged the drain filled it with oil. I drained the radiator & filled it with 50-50 water & anti-freeze. I ran it for about 5 minutes & poured in a can of radiator stop leak. With the new radiator I put in last year, I don't see a problem with plugging.
I have ran the engine for over an hour constantly checking the dip-stick for signs of water. None.
Is it possible that when the temp dropped that something contracted enough for hte water to leak into the crank case and then "re-seal"? This is a tough ol' girl! Seems to just keep going.
Has anyone ever experienced this? What should I watch for? I'll try to keep an update to this for reference.

Ken, wow, I should be so lucky to have the old girl heal herself. I know just how you feel, I bought a TO20 2 months ago. Same owner for last 21 years with no problems. Oil nice and black and no coolant use. Only been run a couple hours since last fall. Ran like a top. So I get her home and figure, since I have to change the oil, I’ll drop the pan and clean it out. After letting it set overnight to completely drain I dropped the pan and got a drop of antifreeze right in the middle of my forehead when I looked up into the block. Sure enough leaking past the sleeves in the back 2 cylinders. I’m praying to the tractor gods that the o rings are just bad and it will be an easy fix. Here’s hoping neither one of us has to use the word “crack” anytime soon! Best Regards, Jac

I bought a rebuilt Z-129 about 6 or 7 years ago and I discovered that it leaked a little bit of antifreeze from the bottom of a couple of sleeves right where the o-rings are. I believe that it originally had cracks that were furnace brazed. I had zero hours, but my warranty was over by the time that I got my tractor back together, so I added some stop leak. It has not leaked since and it has about 700 hours of hard use since then.

I took the ol" girl out and bush hogged for about two hours in the 90 degree heat. I kept an eye on the valve cover vent, dip stick and water overflow. No problems. I checked the dip stick & the oil was clean. I am going to check again tomorrow after it has cooled overnight.
Maybe I"m just lucky or blessed!

i bought a te20 recently and after i got it home the oil turned milky and there was coolant dripping into the oil pan. i used 2 different types of the liquid glass block sealant and now after running it in the driveway no signs of any coolant.the engine does not smoke and compression was good so i did not want to tear the engine apart. i now am gonna run just water and water wetter for summer and antifreeze in the fall. now if i could just find somebody who could find me some brake shoes.
