I took my pump out today and when I took the cotter pin out of the control valve it shot out the spring. So I put the pump on the bench and Then the the rod piece came out and the the metal tube came out. The rod piece is a little bent. Could this be a problem? Should the valve never of come apart and should I just get a new one?

The short "rod" or stem if it is bent this is due to mishandling and has been damaged by trying to lift the Top Cover off without the Control Fork being disconnected. Why did you need to take the cotter out, what where you going to do. The spring is compressed and when you remove the Cotter Pin it will just fly apart, really there is nothing to be gained by taking it apart. The "Tube" is the actual Control Valve that covers and uncovers the holes in the Control Valve Bush in the body of the Pump that allows the oil to be sucked in or allowed to escape. You have to be careful with this valve as if it gets marked it Will not slide freely and can tend to stick. To remove the Control Valve the there is no need to remove the Pump unless there is an agitator fitted. You should be able to use the Control, Valve again with the bent stem providing it isn't bent too badly and this will show when you try to slide it in and out of the Bush in the Pump. Do use new gaskets throughout, don't attempt to use the old ones again.
