My starter switch recently shorted out for some reason on my Ferguson TO30. While trying to replace the starter switch I somehow got things really messed up. Does anyone have a wiring schematic for the electrical wiring on a TO-30. I need to possibly rewire the entire tractor as most of the wires are the wrong gauge and have been spliced several times.

The starter switch is made with the cable studs(actually sq. head bolts) insulated from the housing by cardbard. If the nut is tightened excessivly, you twist the stud and the bolt head cuts through the insulation, directly grounding the starter switch. I learned the hard way;now I use 2 nuts, and sandwich the cable terminal. A side note, 12v cables reduce the current to the starter, they should be 1/0 cable.

Barry,
Check your e-mail. Sent you a sketch. Did you find the short? What do you mean by starter switch?
The safty starter switch,if so maybe it shorted out inside the transmission housing. Vibrated loose maybe? Good luck,
Joe
