I have a 1955 ferguson tractor as determined by the serial number. All the web sites i have looked at indicate the tin should be gray, however, looking at all of the tin including the underside of the engine shroud it appears the original color of my tractor is red. Does anyone have any idea which it is?

If it is a TO-35 and the year is, in fact, 1955-then the colors are grey on the tin work (hood, dash, fenders, seat, grill.) and metallic green on the castings. Mark

Thanks everyone, it is a TO-35 with a serial number of S149615 which checks out to be a 1955. I was just confused because all of the tin and wheels have been painted what appeared to be factory massey red. and the castings are all gray. Thanks, again everyone, I guess I will be refurbishing it back to its orignial color.

The tractors were only ever grey from the factory except certain fleet orders. The red you can see under the grey is a sealer/primer they used on the castings mostly, but they did some tinwork too. There is a red and grey TEA or what looks like a TEA made in France called the FF30GS. I don't know where you are but it is highly unlikely any of these have found there way to USA, there are a few here in UK. It would show up on the serial tag if it was an FF30 though.

What model Ferguson tractor?

If it is a 1955 build there is every chance it was all grey, but the shade of grey seems to depend on where it was manufactured/model.
