I recently purchased a Ferguson cord wood saw at a local auction. It appears to be in very good shape, still has original paint and decal on it. It came with the pulley to go on the PTO, but is 1 1/8 and my 8N Ford has a 1 3/8 shaft. Did Ferguson or Ford make a pulley that would fit on the 1 3/8 shafts? Oh, by the way, I paid $1 for the saw and the pulley, no one at the auction seemed to know what it was!! My lucky day, I hope?

I have seen the pulleys with the 1 3/8" splines sold at auctions around the WI and MN area. In fact I know a guy who bought a couple of them at an auction where they were selling a lot of Ferguson stuff. He paid about $30 - $45 for them. I imagine that he still has them lying around.

They sell a PTO pulley (899633M91) on this site, in the TO35 section under the PTO parts.$250. You would have to make a new bracket for the "top Link" of the saw as the new type pulley is a different shape to the original type. I have pictures of one that has been adapted, I also have pictures of the adaptor that Dean talks about. This fits between the Tractor and the pulley and you fit a PTO adaptor to the tractor shaft and into the pulley. You would need the PTO shaft adaptor, The adaptor to fit the Pulley unit to the tractor which you would have to make up, and four long studs to attach everything to the tractor. If you want the pictures, email me at:-

just tell me what you need and I will send it.

Tas:

Yes, Ford did make pulleys for 1 3/8" PTO shafts but these are much less common than those for the 1 1/8" shaft and harder to find.

Alternatively, you can use a spacer that allows the use of an adapter on your PTO shaft. Once readily available, the spacers are now becomming hard to find too.

If you go the spacer route, you will probably need to shorten your belt a bit as it spaces the pulley back a couple of inches.

You were very lucky. I paid Aus$250 (US$200) for my Cordwood Saw. They seem to have been made, to the same design, in UK, Australia and the USA.

They all seem to have a brass Ferguson ID plate riveted to one leg but you mention decals??? Would you have any photos of the decals, where they are placed and what they look like?

The four legged PTO belt pulley mounting adapter John (UK) has details of is perfect to mount a spine adapter and not expensive to make or have made.

The cordwood saw I bought has a decal across the wooden board that you rest the wood against. It is hard to see, but you can make out "Harry Ferguson". I will try to take a picture and send it to you if you can send me your email. On a different note, I never thought I would be sitting in Indiana talking to people from the UK and Australia about cordwood saws!!

Tas. The internet is a wonderful thing - almost as good as Harry's Grey Fergies!!!

I have a cordwood saw and two PTO belt drives - I'd send you one free but the postage would be a killer!! :-)

I have collected quite a bit of information on the saw and belt drive. Feel free to email me bfulton@goldenwest.org.au
