The town of Ilfachome, 20 miles east of Longreach in far western Queensland, Australia, has an excellent collection of perhaps 60 or more old farm machines, tractors, graders, trucks etc on public display. There is even a WW2 Matilda tank, converted to a bull dozer and original radial engine replaced with a diesel engine.

(Longreach is 700 miles in-land, the town where Qantas the Australian Airline began in 1921. Longreach is also home of the Australian Stockmans Hall of Fame and the Qantas Founders Museum.)

I found a Fergy on display! It is labeled 1948 but the rear casing casting date is 24 December 1952 (Christmas Eve!!) and Serial Number TEA317260 indicates it is an early 1953 model.

There's always a big welcome and a cold beer for any Fergy enthusiast here in Outback Australia!

I've heard about that Aussie beer, Bob. It's probably worth a trip to sample a pint of that "nectar of the gods'!
(I used to work for Boeing and Quantas was a good customer of ours.)

Thanks for the picture.

Hello Bob -

How the dickens did you get that picture in the message?

I've tried unsuccessfully on several occasions.

Jack

G'Day Bob,
What a beauty!!!!! Looks just like mine, except that my poor old fergie is a working tractor and has numerous dints and wounds from lots of hard work!!!

Dave. It looks a lot better than it is, I can assure you!!! It's one Fergy that will never go again.

But the machinery collection at Ilfachome is very interesting. Good collection of tracked and wheeled equipment, implements and quite a bit of farm converted war surplus. Sadly, it's all out in the open.

So, when you go to see the B742 and B707 occupying most of Longreach airport, hitch a lift and go see the old machines at Ilfachome.
