Greetings all,

I recently bought a new manifold from YT for my TO-30. After installing I noticed an empty threaded hole near the top-right side of the manifold (upper exposed side). Being a manifold novice, I'm not sure what that hole is there for. Would someone enlighten me as to the function of this hole is and also if it needs to be plugged-up with a bolt or equivalent.

Much thanks,

Norm

With regards to that threaded hole (intake manifold), I have a flipper valve installed in my since I bought my TO35 25 years ago. It was used to creat a vacuum for a small dairy milking machine. When disconnected, you just turn the valve closed for normal farm operation.

Yes, that hole should be plugged.

I just replaced my also and found a threaded plug in the old manifold I used to plug the hole in the new. My tractor would not start until I plugged this little hole.

Norm... that hole is what I would guess is a test port. Mine had that hole also. If I recall correctly, that's a 1/8 inch NPT hole. That's a pipe plug, not a bolt.

Thanks George -- Dumb question -- do I need to plug it?

Thanks again.

Norm.... It"s been a few years since I replaced mine, I don"t recall if that tapped hole is on the intake side or the exhaust side of the manifold. If it"s on the intake side then absolutely yes, needs plugged or your TO will never run right as it will be sucking-in air instead of gas. If it"s on the exhaust side, it probably is not essential to plug, but it sure will run a lot quieter, and you won"t be breathing the fumes if it were plugged.
Oh, don"t forget to use a new gasket, tighten-up your stud nuts to ~20-22 ft lbs, run your engine to get up to temp., let cool down to ambient temp, and re-torque the nuts. Paint your manifold with BBQ grill HI-TEMP paint first to buy you a couple years before it starts rusting.
