A couple of simple questions from a proud new owner of a Ferguson TE35 (and a complete beginner !)

I have seen references to "Live PTO" and "Two stage clutch". What is live PTO ? and why has the clutch got two stages ?

I appear to have a fuel leak which I need to fix. If I start undoing bits and introduce air into the fuel system, how do I bleed the fuel system ?

Thanks for your help (in anticipation).

Pete (from England)

Live power is when the pto continues to receive power when the tractor is stopped by the first stage of the clutch. The tractor drive is separate from the pto. The second stage of the clutch then disengages the pto. So, when you push down on the clutch, approximately 1/2 way down you feel more resistance. This has disengaged the first stage and is encountering the second stage. You know, it is difficult to explain something I have done for 46 years and never really thought about it! I hope I have done an acceptable job of it. The fuel leak should not be a problem if you fill new filters with clean fuel when installing them. Try starting the engine after fixing the leak. If it won't start loosen injector lines at the injector starting with #1 and doing one at at time, crank the engine until fuel begins leaking, and bubbles cease. Tighten that line, and progress to the next, until all have been bled. Have fun! I do.
