You guys were such a help a while back with my hydraulics trouble. I've got that fixed, no I need to do something about the front end. In the first pic, are the wheels supposed to be angled toward the middle so much? In the second pic is the major problem. I can't replace the pivot pin and bushing, because the old guy I bought this from had welded everything together. And there are some welds on the axle on either side of the pivot, and they are cracked and when I turn the steering wheel and put pressure on the axel the cracks open up. This thing is getting progressively harder to steer. Am I right in thinking I might as well just replace everything (if I can find a axle support). And for some reason there is a noise that has started coming from around the front drag link or spindle when I try to turn sharp, and it's made it even harder to steer. Link doesn't seem to have any play, might have to replace or fix the spindle too. This little tractor is getting expensive. Thanks for any input, Anthony

Are you sure the center portion of the axle is not up side down. I bought one of these last winter with the center portion flipped. Everything looked right except the camber like yours. Axle would hit the radiator shroud on anything other than level ground. I see yours has no shroud....

Thanks Ken, I'm about to leave for a few days of vacation, I'll check that when I get back.

I would remove entire front end, take it all apart, clean it all up consult with a local machinist show them whats going on, they can steer you in the right direction. Talk to a qualified welder. You may want to get the steel magnufluxed for other cracks. Its a lot of work I would not want to take any chances espically with steering. You may be able to get most of it repaired instead of replacing parts, just some things to think about. Regards,John

While a picture can be misleading, it looks to me that only the center piece of the axle assembly is bent. As for the axle pivot mount that bolts to the engine, it's not all that complicated. A welder should be able to patch it up.

No-one makes an axle carrier for these tractors now but everything else is available. As for the axle being bent. that is unusual unless it has had an accident and hit something they will cope with most things except neglect. They are ok even with a heavy loader so maybe it has hit something. As has been said you would have to source a carrier from a wreckers yard. Get someone to remove the gas torch from the old guy who welded all this up before he does it again.

Sure looks like you have excessive camber on the spindles. I don't know where you get the axle support. Is it possible to grind off the welds and rebush the center pin? Or is the axle support it self cracked? You need to get this fixed before you have an accident or a failure of the axle.

 Hey Jerry/MT in reply to Jerry/MT, 08-31-2007 19:39:34
Which of these problems would cause the excessive camber? The bent axle?

Bent axle or bent spindle.

Doesn't look promising. All of those pieces are available on this site but will run you a few hundred to get right if you need all three pieces of the axle + spindles + bearings. You may not need to replace the two axle pieces that carry the spindles but I would examine them carefully.

That angle looks entirely wrong, the wheels should be perfectly vertical. I would think a cracked axle is bad news and potentially dangerous.

greenbank, I may be wrong, but I've found all those parts on this site except the axle support that bolts onto the motor. If it's on here and I am missing it, please let me know. Thanks

No, I think you're right. You'll probably have to source that from a salvage yard.
