Help!!

The Plug Wires on my TO 20 were removed by an inquisitive calf and I am trying to figure out how to rewire it. Anyone have any suggestions? I have a wiring diagram but that does not tell me where the number one plug wire goes on the distributor cap.

Thanks in advance!!

The # 1 plug wire should go in which ever nipple that is over the rotor when the #1 piston (one in the front) is at the top of the compression stroke, HAS to be at the top of the compression stroke! That can actually be ANY nipple location, depending how your distributor was inserted in the block, and is NOT the same on every TO-20. The best way to insure you have the right position on the engine is to crank your engine around to top of #1 compressions stroke, and pull the timing plug next to the starter, look for the timing marks on the flywheel to make sure you have top dead center of # 1 cylinder on the compression stroke, and that you are not 180 degree out of position. Remove your cap to see where your rotor is.... that's where # 1 plug goes.

The distributor is just a round set of contactors with a gear on the bottom driven. The distributor itself doesn't care which cap nipple you identify as # 1. That is why the manual doesn't say the # 1 wire has to go on a specific nipple. It just says your engine has to be at the top of the compression stroke, etc. The firing order is 1342

I know my # 1 wire location is in a different location than some other guys based on past posts. I think I decided on # 1 location by how the stock wire set lengths lined-up conveniently around the cap.

Kind of like reading a book.
#1 is top left (10:00 o'clock) and moving left to right # 2 is 2:00 o' clock.
bottom left (8 o' clock) is #3 moving right 4 o'clock is #4.

Fairly confident in that response....standing by the tractor is easy,,,,, ,,,sitting away from tractor makes me question myself. Mark
