Monday I am going to look at a 1952 TO30. The owner said the engine is in a zillion pieces and Missing parts. My question is what other engines can I use, if I can find one? Will all the TO20's bolt right up to it? What about the english standard engines? Was there a V8 made, like the 8N funk,For the ferguson? If so was there a kit? Since the engine is apart and I will have to get another one, at the end I don't what to smack myself in the head and said, "I could have had a V8".

Probably any of the Continental Zs will bolt up, but I've not tried it. Z 120, Z129, Z134, Z145...

Eventually Perkins' 152 diesels bolted up, but my MF-135 parts book shows a different front assembly for the Perkins diesel and gas engines.

The Standard engines were a British "feature" and in NJ parts may tend to be more than rare. Continental parts will be more available, a lot more available.

Then maybe the owner is better at taking apart than assembling and all you need is a parts book to show where all the bits and pieces go and a shop manual to check clearances and settings and its a kit (with the addition of replacement wear parts like rings and bearing inserts) waiting for your patient assembly. Price your offer accordingly. There could easily be some common but rare parts (camshaft, pushrods) lost and not easy to find, to say nothing about bolts like rod cap, main bearing cap, and head bolts.

... the internals are much the same, but I think the Z134 has a different bellhousing.. not sure about the Z145, but I think the bell is also different from the Z120 and Z129.. Jim

Could be the 120/129 have a different mounting than the 134/145. I believe the 134 and 145 have the same mountings as they were both used in the MF-135. The 134 in the stripped special and the 145 in the deluxe. The major differences between the two engines being bore and stroke and the head of a 145 has a molded Z-134. But the blocks have different part numbers. The front gear covers are the same and my parts book lists the standard bore pistons and sleeves from the 145 as a big bore kit to fit the 134.

However the parts book shows one more bolt, washer, and nut in the list for the special at the flywheel end.

In 50 yrs i have never seen a funk ferg, but it is possible. The te-20,to 20, and 30 engine will fit. Anything else will need adaptation.
I have most parts
